This had to have been one of the windiest sessions to date! I mean, a little wind-blown beach hair is iconic, but it proves a little challenging with a group of 13. The evening was beautiful though with some delicious light and a perfect sunset. This family powered through and stayed fun and relaxed - evidence that they simply enjoy being around each other.  And maybe being in Hawaii! Mahalo to the Mathies family - it was a pleasure!

When they told me their plan, I was so excited to be a part of it. Jan and Sarah were engaged, but the idea of a big wedding didn't quite fit their personalitie

Don't you wish every man had the foresight to hire a photographer when he proposed? I was so excited to help Steve when he called me up and wanted to plan a surprise proposal to Tatiana on their first night in Hawaii. I don't know if he was more nervous, or if I was! I hid myself in a giant naupaka bush and waited for them to walk down the beach trail. It was a perfect night, with the sun just beginning to set and long shadows starting to fall. I'm so glad she said yes, because then we got to do some fun engagement photos along the rocky beach. Thank you Steve and Tatiana for letting me document thi...

This is my baby. She promised that she'd always be my baby, but I have a sinking suspicion that she'll break that promise sooner than later! I always take some special pictures of my kids around their birthday, and Josie has been begging for hers. She is the fourth child, and as such, she lives quite a different life than the first child did. For starters, it's amazing she's still alive considering I didn't read any baby books when she was born and I'm pretty sure I've missed at least 50% of her well-child visits and immunizations! On the other hand, she's got 3 extra people in the house to look aft...

I had tears in my eyes when I saw them at the airport. I knew I would. When we moved to Hawaii 6 months ago, I was pretty sure the hardest thing would be leaving this particular family. And it was. Not everybody is lucky enough to grow up with their best friend as their sister and go through all of life's big events with her by their side. It seemed like our lives have always been strangely parallel. From marrying brothers a month apart, to having a baby every other year, to showing up with the same outfit, and even locking ourselves in the bathroom to hide from our children. I never took it for gra...

Yay! I'm so incredibly excited to launch my new photography website here in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. After living in the beautiful mountains of Idaho for most of my growing up life, we said goodbye to everything familiar and jumped on a plane across the ocean. About 2 years ago, both Jason and I begin to wonder if God might have us move to Hawaii to help his brother with a little church he was starting. It seemed like such a far-off dream at the time, but here I am typing with a tropical breeze floating through my windows and palm trees swaying in my front yard. Sometimes I have to pinch myself! Hard. G...
