Shooting weddings in a place like Hawaii is. . . just so darn fun! #1. People are super chill and make you feel like family. #2. It's gorgeous. Everywhere. Ashley and Jio are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. I knew it when I met them, but it was totally confirmed when I saw them interacting with all their friends and family on their wedding day. When the speeches go long because everyone has so many special things to say about you - that's a good thing! I also loved how so many of their friends were involved in details like music, catering and decorating. I can't say enough good things ab...

Where do I start??? I just can't believe this beautiful girl is all grown up and ready to jump into adulthood (kind of, right?). She is the first of the Baker clan to hit this milestone and I'm thinking how much life will change in the next few years as so many of her cousins follow suit. It's so sad and exciting all at the same time! Ellen, I've been thinking how thankful I am to be able to know you so well during this stage of your life. I didn't know you as well when you were a little girl - although I heard a lot of stories! I feel like we're friends, even though I am old and you are not. I'm so...

I wonder if my kids really understand how blessed they are? Waking up with the ocean in view and adventure around every corner. I honestly don't know if we'll live in Hawaii forever, so I hope they enjoy and appreciate every day and every experience. I know that God is using all of this to make each of them into unique people, and I'm so thankful for this time in our life. My special prayer for Em, is that she will grow up with a beautiful understanding of who God is and what He has given her. So that she can live her life in response to that.

Whenever a couple repeats their vows at a wedding, I can't help but think back to my own. Standing there, making promises. It's impossible to see what's in the future and the predict the unusual circumstances that will test those sacred vows. But as the years go by, and the promises ring true despite the bills, the inconveniences, the doldrums, those vows become sweeter and each word holds meaning. Steven and Talitha celebrated 10 years in Hawaii, and the tears in their eyes and the words between them were evidence that marriage wasn't always easy, but it was always worth it.

I absolutely loved doing this senior session! It was a perfect Hawaii evening with a soft breeze and amazing light drifting in over the ocean. One of those nights, where I'm just amazed that I get to do what I do. Kaimana is a busy senior, working on her school newspaper and playing softball, but she wanted her pictures to just be about her enjoying some of her favorite places on the island. Which is exactly what we did! Aloha Kaimana!

1 cabin. 21 people. 5 days. So much fun! As part of our visit to Idaho, we were able to spend some time up in Donnelly with my family. Of course, I couldn't pass up the opportunity for family photos (insert collective groan from beloved family members) amidst the beautiful and rugged Idaho wilderness (technically the backyard to our cabin). Honestly, taking pictures of family has to be harder than . . . just about anything I can think of at the moment! For example, this is what has happened in the past when we use the delayed timer on my camera so I can be in the picture.

It only takes about 15 trie...

I never thought the timing would work out, but I was able to shoot senior pictures for one of my favorite teens in Idaho this past month! I absolutely cannot believe that Emma is a senior, ready to take on the world. She has always been a beautiful, sweet girl, but it's amazing to see her confidence and personality developing as she moves towards this next stage of life. I miss not being able to watch her play volleyball or have her babysit my kids or hear her tell a (long) story! Emma, I know God has great things for you and I'm excited about your dream to be a nurse. Can't wait to see what the nex...

There is something rather magical about an elopement ceremony. Two people, completely alone in the universe, pledging their lives and their love to each other. Keili and Mark planned their whole wedding in the space of 24 hours, and it made for some spontaneous, beautiful moments between them. No stress, no deadlines, just a walk in the sand followed by words of love. Keili and Mark, if the smiles on your faces are any indication, you are sure to have a lifetime of happiness. I wish you all the best and much aloha!

Although a lot of extended families get their pictures done in Hawaii, I really love when a single family has the time to hang out with me on a beach during their vacation. Sometimes they come dreading the "family picture torture" time they expect. But it's so not that! They take their shoes off, laugh, throw rocks, climb trees, and spend some quiet moments remembering why they love their family. In the meantime, I snap away. And now and then, they forget that I'm even there and authentic moments happen. This session with the Garvin family was full of such moments, and I hope they will always treasu...

Have I mentioned that I love doing senior pictures? Because I do! I love finding and exploring their personality, and then trying to showcase it in their photos. Jessi is an artsy kind of gal. She loves all things related to music and art, and thought Hawaii would be the perfect place to do senior pictures. I couldn't agree more. We started in the quaint little town of Holualoa, found a life guard tower since she works as a life guard, and then eventually made our way down to the beach for sunset. The only things missing were her pets, which unfortunately couldn't all come on vacation with her! Jess...
